Union Station, opened in 1908, stands as a grand ceremonial train station and the symbolic gateway to Washington, D.C. The station is a transportation hub, served by Amtrak, MARC, and VRE commuter railroads, as well as the Washington Metro's buses and subway system. It also houses Amtrak's headquarters.
