E.L. Haynes Public Charter School: Renovation of 46,000 SF facility and expansion in Washington, D.C. with energy-efficient MEP systems by Capitol Engineering Group for a sustainable school.

Capitol Engineering Group provided MEP engineering services for the renovation and expansion of E.L. Haynes Public Charter School, a vibrant educational institution in Washington, D.C. In 2009, E.L. Haynes was awarded the exclusive right to lease the former Clark Elementary School through a competitive city-wide process. The project involved the renovation of the existing 46,000-square-foot facility, an addition to the site, and the development of approximately five acres of outdoor space, including athletic fields, playspace, and outdoor academic areas.

The renovated facility allows E.L. Haynes to continue expanding, now offering a complete K-12 education to a growing student body. Capitol Engineering Group’s MEP solutions were crucial in ensuring that the school’s infrastructure met modern standards of sustainability, comfort, and energy efficiency. The project not only breathed new life into a former public school building but also helped return a key community asset to its original purpose—serving students and the broader neighborhood.
