Capitol Engineering Group provided MEP engineering services for the Buchanan School Townhouses project in Washington, DC, converting historical school buildings into 32 modern townhouses.

Capitol Engineering Group served as the MEP engineer for the Buchanan School Townhouses, a residential development project located at the corner of 13th and D Streets in Washington, DC. The property, steeped in history, spans 2.13 acres and consists of four buildings (two school buildings, an interstitial building, and an auditorium) dating back to between 1895 and the 1930s. Previously home to the International Graduate University (IGU), the site was transformed into 32 townhouses. Capitol Engineering Group provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems design, ensuring the integration of modern utilities within the historic buildings while maintaining the architectural integrity of the property. The development presented a unique challenge of retrofitting existing structures with updated systems to create comfortable, sustainable, and energy-efficient living spaces.
