Principals

Alex Shojaei, P.E.

Alex Shojaei is a founding principal of Capitol Engineering Group, LLC. His primary responsibilities are the development of engineering systems for construction documents and contract administration, business development and the daily operations of the firm. He has extensive experience in orchestrating the production of drawing packages and following the project through to completion. Mr. Shojaei brings to the team a thorough understanding of the design and construction process as well as the ability to provide accurate, budget-conscious documents for a smooth, accurate and successful project. He is especially skilled in coordinating the project engineering design team and construction teams to achieve successful execution of the project.

With more than 20 years of professional experience, Mr. Shojaei has been responsible for a wide range of projects, varying in size and complexity. He is a registered professional engineer in District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

Mr. Shojaei offers clients an engineering background both broad and deep in the arenas of institutional, commercial, educational, health care, multifamily residential and commercial interior design. His portfolio includes work on behalf of the Celera Genomics of Rockville, Maryland, General Service Administration (ICC Building in Washington DC, Fallon Building in Baltimore, Maryland), Transwestern, Howard University in Washington, DC, The University of Maryland at College park and Brandywine Managements Company in Washington, DC.

Mr. Shojaei was an Associate Vice President with RTKL Associates for five years before co founding Capitol Engineering Group. He was a Chief Mechanical Engineer with KCI Technologies of Hunt Valley, Maryland and a project manager with RMF engineering of Baltimore, Maryland.

In 1982 he received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park.

Mr. Shojaei is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and American Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE).

Farrokh Khatami, P.E.

Farrokh Khatami is a founding principal of Capitol Engineering Group, LLC. His primary responsibilities are mechanical system design, project management and the daily operations of the firm. In addition to overseeing the firm's practice, he works with each project team to develop engineering design concepts, schedules, budgets, and procedures. His experience in taking projects from inception through completion, has given him a special expertise in creating and managing projects which fulfill the client's engineering needs and expectations within the realities of deadlines and budgets.

In more than 22 years of professional practice Mr. Khatami has handled a wide range of projects of varied scale and complexity.

Mr. Khatami's professional design portfolio includes commercial, institutional, retail, hospitality, and health care facilities, as well as residential. His engineering work on behalf of clients includes, but is not limited to the Phelps School, Montgomery County Public Schools, Fairmont Building 12 story office bldg., 125,000 SF, Bethesda, Maryland, 6600 Rockledge Office Building Renovation, 180,000 SF office building Bethesda, Maryland, The Commons - Salisbury State University 124,000 SF bldg. Including a 600 ton thermal storage system, Agricultural Life Sciences Bldg. - University of Maryland at College Park, Maryland and, Physical Fitness Center Quantico, Virginia 46,000 SF Fitness facilities with racquetball courts, Gymnasium with 1800 occupants. The design achieved Bronze LEED Rating.

Mr. Khatami was a Principal at WEDGCO Engineering before co founding Capitol Engineering Group. He was at WEDGCO for 19 years.

In 1979 he received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Western Michigan University at Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is a registered engineer in the states of Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Mr. Khatami is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers. He has received the following awards:
